AWESOME snack food!!
This is the first time I have ever had Edamame...and I LOVE it! I find the quality of Roland foods to be excellent, and these are exceptionally delicious and great for someone that is trying to watch their fat intake, AND have a crunchy snack.I am not one that loves salt and find these to be perfect for my tastes, if you're a "salt" person, you may find you need more salt -- but they are perfect for me!

tastes good and is healthy too
This snack defies the rule of "if it tastes good, it must be bad for you." I am into the low-carb diets and was thrilled to see that this only had 3% carbs in a serving. I am also diabetic so I need to watch my carbs. This is a fantastic and tasty solution. Snacking on these helps me easily make it between meals without being too hungry and gorging on things that I should not be consuming like office donuts. It also has 10% iron and 34% fiber. The taste is a little like peanuts but the texture is crunchier - more like half-popped popcorn kernels.

Delicious and good for you too...
These green soy nuts are a delicious alternative to the smaller soy nuts that you usually find in grocery stores. They are great by themselves and also make a great addition to a trail mix with other nuts and dried fruits. Buying them by the dozen is great because the packages are small. A good value too, as the only other place I've seen them charges over 1.50 per bag.

Delicious and somewhat addicting snack.
This is a wonderful snack. Perfectly salted (light salt), very crunchy and satisfying. Great product for diabetic as it's high fiber and protein, but low carbohydrates. Great replacement for peanuts.

Awesome flavor!
I've been buying Seapoint Farms dry roasted Edemame for years to snack on. This last time it wasn't available, so I purchased the Ann's House in the slightly smaller container. Boy was I surprised at the flavor! Same light salt, but the dry roasting is different, resulting in much better taste. As with all dry roasted edemame, you don't want to be eating this without your favorite drink next to you, as it can get really dry.

Simply Superb!
Like another reviewer I had previously been buying Seapoint dried edamame for a long time but I've been told that they have simply stopped making it. So I got Ann's House Edamame and boy is it wonderful! It's a terrific source not only of taste -- and the taste is to die for -- but a significant source of protein: a 1/4 cup serving yields 11g protein. As well as fiber: 5g per serving. As an ovolacto-vegetarian it's important that I get enough protein and it turns out I use edamame a lot. One of my favorite ways to use it is to stir a serving into a pot of yogurt. This makes a terrific breakfast or late-night snack.Scott Morrison

Delicious!
I'm yet another past consumer of the Seapoint Farms variety. They were excellent and Ann's House is excellent too.Update 7/31/2011: Can't swear to it but as I'm munching on these (as I am now) I don't think these are quite as salty as the Seapoint Farms version. For me, that's a good thing (I wish I could could find them roasted but completely unsalted). Very good stuff. Those who like salt will find them satisfying; those who aren't so keen on salt will like them too, if I'm any example.

A Healthy version of Russian Roulette, with a flamethrower
First off, this is a great snack. Loaded with protein, it's a real food (not overly processed), not sugared up, not overloaded with sodium, with relatively few calories for how filling it is -- you don't feel guilty reaching for it. They also taste good, with the one major caveat. The only problem is, like every other review states, the uneven distribution of Wasabi. So, you can go a few handfuls without feeling more than a tingle, and then you grab that one bean. I literally mean ONE bean too, because that's all it takes to get the party started. You won't recognize this one bean from the outside because the coating on all of them is invisible. You will only recognize it when it's inside your mouth burning away the top layers of cells - it's the fire bean. You will find this bean, and you most surely will find it, because there are a few special beans in every package. When you find this one bean it is like a quart of drano down the gullet. That sinus...

Healthy but unevenly spiced
This seems like a healthy snack for the amount of protein and number of calories per serving. My only issue with the snack is that it's very bland - all the wasabi is on the seed coat, which crumbles and falls off the soy nut far too easily. You can eat half a handful without tasting any added spice and then go into a coughing fit from accidentally inhaled wasabi-seed-coat-powder. A little salt would've helped the flavor too.

BUY Seapoint Farms Dry Roasted Edamame, Wasabi, 3.5-Ounce Pouches (Pack of 12)

Edamame Beans

1 pound shelled and cooked Edamame (soy) beans, often available in frozen food sections.                   In a food processor, puree the Edamame beans, broccoli, onion, and garlic for 2 minutes. 3 tablespoons freshly chopped basil.   Add sour cream, yogurt, basil, and black pepper. 3 tablespoons fat-free plain yogurt.

When adding the last half cup of hot stock, also add the blanched asparagus and edamame beans to reheat them. Working in batches, blanch asparagus and edamame beans by placing them in the simmering stock for one and a half minutes to cook slightly. Add a half cup of the hot stock and stir until the broth is absorbed and barley is creamy. In early spring, I always find that I face a bit of a dilemma: my mouth screams for fresh green flavours but in reality, there aren’t a lot of fresh spring greens at the ready. Continue stirring, adding the hot stock half a cup at a time until barley is al dente, about 30 minutes. Spring, spring, spring.

1/2 cup Edamame beans, shelled. Meanwhile, place edamame in a microwavable bowl, cover with plastic wrap and cook on high in the microwave for three minutes. They taste almost exactly like pinto beans — which we used to call football beans when I was a kid — and you can substitute those if you prefer. Use a fish spatula to turn the fish to prevent the filets from breaking apart. Landing a marlin is considered one of the greatest accomplishments among sports fishermen, but marlin is usually either stuffed and hung on the wall or released after being caught. Then add the edamame and the red pepper to the soba noodles. Then use the fish spatula to place the marlin filets on top of the noodles and garnish with green onion.  I prefer shelled, frozen edamame because I don’t use them that often. Next place the red pepper in another microwavable bowl, cover with plastic wrap and microwave for one minute, just to soften. One fishmonger told me the tuna have stopped running so the price has skyrocketed and everybody has temporarily stopped stocking it. A note on the ingredients: Edamame are soybeans. I found both the edamame and the soba noodles at Trader Joe’s. Make sure the edamame and red pepper are evenly distributed. Combine 1/4 cup of Teriyaki sauce, vinegar, ginger, honey and garlic in sealable plastic container and stir together. Place marlin filets in the marinade and turn over a couple of times to completely coat the fish.

Edamame Beans News

Joe Kirksey of Mulberry, Ark., left, and soybean breeder Pengyin Chen examine bean pods from an edamame soybean plant in a University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture greenhouse. The division is releasing the first US variety of edamame.

  • Time to spring into salads

While sliced carrots, sweet peppers and cucumbers are salad standards, try adding lightly blanched vegetables that have been chilled, such as asparagus, green beans, peas or shelled edamame. Drained and rinsed canned beans can be a wonderful addition

  • The fast and the curious

A spiky piccalilli on the side, a watery but full-flavoured Dijon mustard coating the peas, pea-shoots, edamame beans and chunks of sticky, sweet, smoked Ramsay of Carluke ham hough giving it real oomph. Much, much better than it looked.
