One of the best watches I have ever owned. A poster watch when it comes to durability and functionality. Doesn't have complex functions and bizzaro controls, but rather is suited for just about every individual. If you are an active outdoor individual and are afraid of hurting your watch when rollerblading, snowboarding, anything -- then buy a G-Shock and you will not be disappointed.

The best all-purpose active/sports watch I have ever owned.
I have brought this watch through the trials of time and it continues to function flawlessly. I bought this watch before enduring 6 weeks of boot camp at the United States Naval Academy. The Casio G-Shock performed great in the mud, rain, rivers, and grueling sessions of physical training. If it can handle the military, it can handle any civilian duty!!

The Most Rugged Watch In the World
This watch is the best all purpose watch. I am a Firefighter and I rely on this all the "time". I also reccomend this to people who work with electricity because of the all rubber design there is no chance the band will conduct and shock you unlike metal banded watches. And the price is the best I have seen.

Everybody in the battalion was issued this watch before we shipped out for Iraq back in 2005, five years ago today actually, and the battery finally just died last night, WOW!...This thing lasted through an entire tour in Iraq, it made it through all the blood, sweat and tears and it just kept going. GREAT WATCH!

Good, nice looking watch so far.
I was more than a little concerned with all the negative reviews, but decided to go ahead and take a chance. Amazon customer service is pretty good, the watch has a 1 year warranty, and by paying with American Express, Amex adds another year to the warranty. So I figure I'm covered if any issues from the negative reviews happen upon me. I'm not a big guy and was concerned that the watch might look like a hockey puck on my wrist. My wrist measures about 7" in circumference. I was pleasantly surprised at how good the watch looks on my wrist. So pleased that I ordered a second watch for my son. 07/08/09 - Still going strong after almost 1-1/2 year.

Great watch, but. . .
I'm a building contractor who's been wearing G-shocks since 1986. I've probably gone through five of them. With the earlier models I was always having to replace the watch band because I brutalized them so badly on the jobsite. The most recent one I bought was the DW9052. Good watch and the band lasted very well, but the battery is starting to go so I've ordered a new Gulfman. The problem with the DW9052 watch is that the battery is only rated for two years. Granted, I got nearly four years out of it, but I'm buying the Gulfman this time because it has a battery that is rated for seven years. Of course, it costs twice as much, which proves you get what you pay for. (Never pay to have a battery replaced in a G-shock, since they can't guarantee it will remain waterproof after they open the watchcase.) G-shocks in general are the sturdiest watches ever built. .. And not only does it blend perfectly with my ACU's(Uniform) , but off duty in civilian clothing i can wear it where ever. Stylish yet simple. Hi-Tech with a futuristic, hard ass.. bad boy look and feel to it depending on your point of view. Love it. A MUST BUY! Yeah the LED doesn't illuminate the digital time, but what other watch illuminates when its pointed at your face at night? What other watch this reliable, shockproof, magneticproof, shockwave proof, water proof, has a speedometer! plus the analog hands move automatically(thought that was cool). But the manual takes some time to figure out. a small price to pay for this Hi-Tech watch. A must if you are in the Military. -got it as a early xmas gift from a friend back in the states. love it.

Best G-Shock I have ever owned
This is my 3rd G-Shock in 20 years. My first lasted 5 years then was destroyed when I had the battery replaced & it did not stay waterproof, my bad for not verifying before I took it in salt water. The second one was ripped off my arm after I had it for 10 years when the water ski rope grabbed it when I wiped out, probably still going at the bottom of the lake, that was about 5 years ago. This one looks great & has excellent functions. I really like the complements I get when wearing it. It fits great, is comfortable to wear & is very light. Since the band seems to always be the weak link on G-Shocks, I ordered 2 replacement bands from Casio so I am ready for this watch to last for many, many years. As others have stated, it is a bit hard to read the digital part in lower light, but I don't find that a problem as the time is displayed on the hands & that is the primary reason you wear a watch! I have had it for 3 months now & it has stayed accurate to 10 seconds so far, I am a pleased...

Good look bad funtionality
I went crazy when I saw this watch online, I'm active duty and any thing black smacks me in the face and makes me want to buy it, so I just had to have this watch. I loved it at first its all matt black pretty big face nice strap pretty spec ops looking. After a few weeks when I really started to get down to using it, I realized it was not as good. The dial light is orange and it does not really light up the entire face as well in the dark it kind of casts a shadown over the dial which sucks when you're training at 0230 in the woods with nothing around. The digital layout is the worst its in the negative format which is black all around and the numbers are light grey. Its not flushed with the watch dial so whe to illuminate the dial light you just cannot read the digital time it's always black. When doing PT in the mornings in the dark you need to see the seconds display and its too black to see any thing, if the hands happen to be over the digital display it makes it...

Best looking watch I've ever owned.
After a lifetime of black or metal scuba and combat style watches I decided to give this model a try. This is hands down the nicest looking watch I've ever owned, very classy. First time I wore it to the gym, I could tell it was noticed and it's been complemented several times during day wear. I was worried that white would look girlish... this thing looks as girlish as an M1 Abrams battle tank camouflaged white for the winter snow. The blue numbering and hands look great on the white background and are soothing on the eyes. The wide double-holed band adds to it's muscularity. I'm a big guy with a large wrist and am only two notches to the end of the strap, so if you have a monster wrist you may be disappointed. On the other hand, my petite girlfriend tried it on an it looked amazing on her and the band was could be adjusted to fit her her perfectly, so I'm ordering one for her also...

Beautiful Watch; bad lighting.
I'll start with the positives: It's straight-up BEAUTIFUL. This is my first watch purchase that was above the $25 Wal-Mart threshold and I don't regret it for a second. I'm in love with its engineering beauty and its durable materials. The features are great (even if I don't plan on using the extra two dials). The face of the watch is exactly as described: X Large. It dwarfs my old geeky calculator watch, and I feel like I'm wearing a behemoth on my little wrist. The red and black provide a rather appealing contrast and I'm glad I purchased this over the all-black model. I'm sure it'll be attracting a lot of looks once I go back into schooling. Now for the bad: The LED Backlight is TERRIBLE. One pro my old watches had: a blue LED backlight option. It illuminated the entire display and checking the time was no problem. Do not buy from AYW Watches LLC -Jakes Watches!!!
I ordered Gshock GA 100-1A4 as a gift for my wedding anniversary.I had searched high and low for this particular model and then decided to buy through Amazon.I was really excited to receive this watch on the estimated delivery date.Imagine my disappointment for all the preparation I had done for this when I received a totally different watch!!! So I had placed a nagative feedback on the seller,AYW Watches LLC -Jakes Watches(third party seller).Three weeks back,I received a very unapologetic mail from Jakes Watches saying that Amazon had fulfilled this wrongly and belittled this by calling this a small mistake due to a small digit.As a service recovery,the seller promised me a refund for the blunder done!I was asked to remove the negative feedback by the seller. My personal perfect watch
This 5600 has everything I need, and nothing I don't: - It tells you the time, date, and day of the week at a glance. - It has 1 alarm (not 5 like many other G-Shocks -- too fidly). - A countdown timer (with the current time shown in the upper box). - A stopwatch (again, time is still shown). That's it. If you want fancy "features" like inaccurate temperature readings, barometric pressure graph which gets distorted by temperature and altitude, 19 alarms, and world time in 7,000 cities around the world -- look elsewhere! This watch does exactly what a wristwatch should, which in my opinion is tell the time, and take an absolute beating. I don't particularly want to stand in public pressing 15 buttons on my watch, just to set a quick alarm to remind me of something. Excellent Watch
I have owned the Casio DW-5600E G-Shock Classic Watch for the past 5 or more years now. I've worn it every day in every condition from mountain climbing to river rafting to scuba diving to business boardrooms and it has always functioned perfectly. It seems at home in every situation. I rely on the easy to use features such as the stopwatch, countdown timer and alarm. It is the only travel alarm I take on trips and it has never failed me yet. My watch gains about 1 minute per month, so every 3 months or so I set it back to keep the time as accurate as possible. I highly recommend this watch.

Unbelievably Durable
I bought one of the early G-Shocks in the 1980's... and it lasted through 2006 -- over 20 years. The plastic outer case finally started to deteriorate... and oh yeah I tore or lost the strap retaining loop about 10 years ago (no big deal just put on a tie wrap and kept on wearing the watch). To put this in context, I use my sport watches for sailing, boating, diving and snorkeling (usually in salt water) ...and most other watches have lasted only 2-3 years. The amazing thing is that I never replaced the battery on this original Casio G-Shock -- it just kept working until the casing finally went. Only slight disadvantage for sailing races it that it doesn't have a synch feature for interim starting signals. But other than that all the functionality that you really use is there *and* you don't have to read the instruction manual to figure out the watch... user interface and buttons are straightforward and obvious. Classic bulletproof sport watch...

Just be aware
I bought one of these white Casio watches about 3 years ago. It's a great watch and love the atomic feature BUT I wish I had know the white color is just painted on. It rubs off and looks pretty bad when it does. If I had it to do over again I wouldn't have worn it as a everyday watch and maybe it would have stayed looking nice longer. I called Casio customer service to ask them if all of their colored or white watches were just painted on finishes and yep, they are. Maybe someday they will make the housing and bands with color all the way through, just not there yet.
