Was issued this watch before leaving for Iraq...
Everybody in the battalion was issued this watch before we shipped out for Iraq back in 2005, five years ago today actually, and the battery finally just died last night, WOW!...This thing lasted through an entire tour in Iraq, it made it through all the blood, sweat and tears and it just kept going. GREAT WATCH!

Good, nice looking watch so far.
I was more than a little concerned with all the negative reviews, but decided to go ahead and take a chance. Amazon customer service is pretty good, the watch has a 1 year warranty, and by paying with American Express, Amex adds another year to the warranty. So I figure I'm covered if any issues from the negative reviews happen upon me.I'm not a big guy and was concerned that the watch might look like a hockey puck on my wrist. My wrist measures about 7" in circumference. I was pleasantly surprised at how good the watch looks on my wrist. So pleased that I ordered a second watch for my son.07/08/09 - Still going strong after almost 1-1/2 year.

Great watch, but. . .
I'm a building contractor who's been wearing G-shocks since 1986. I've probably gone through five of them. With the earlier models I was always having to replace the watch band because I brutalized them so badly on the jobsite. The most recent one I bought was the DW9052. Good watch and the band lasted very well, but the battery is starting to go so I've ordered a new Gulfman. The problem with the DW9052 watch is that the battery is only rated for two years. Granted, I got nearly four years out of it, but I'm buying the Gulfman this time because it has a battery that is rated for seven years. Of course, it costs twice as much, which proves you get what you pay for. (Never pay to have a battery replaced in a G-shock, since they can't guarantee it will remain waterproof after they open the watchcase.)G-shocks in general are the sturdiest watches ever built. One of the best watches I have ever owned. A poster watch when it comes to durability and functionality. Doesn't have complex functions and bizzaro controls, but rather is suited for just about every individual. If you are an active outdoor individual and are afraid of hurting your watch when rollerblading, snowboarding, anything -- then buy a G-Shock and you will not be disappointed.

The best all-purpose active/sports watch I have ever owned.
I have brought this watch through the trials of time and it continues to function flawlessly. I bought this watch before enduring 6 weeks of boot camp at the United States Naval Academy. The Casio G-Shock performed great in the mud, rain, rivers, and grueling sessions of physical training. If it can handle the military, it can handle any civilian duty!!

The Most Rugged Watch In the World
This watch is the best all purpose watch. I am a Firefighter and I rely on this all the "time". I also reccomend this to people who work with electricity because of the all rubber design there is no chance the band will conduct and shock you unlike metal banded watches. And the price is the best I have seen.

Overall Good - Some Complaints
Pros: This watch is quite accurate. I've never had to make any adjustments to it and have been wearing it for nearly two years. Still on the first battery. This watch is also incredibly rugged. I am an active, active outdoor adventurer and have ABUSED this watch. It's never once asked me to ease up on it; it just keeps telling me the time. This includes a couple SCUBA dives.Cons: The light only lights the small digital display at the bottom of the watch. If, like me, you keep the digital display on the date mode, the night light won't help you much. I don't believe this watch has ever leaked, but if the temperature is cool, this watch fogs up. And finally, if the time is between 25 past the hour and 35 past the hour, don't even think about being able to read the digital display at the bottom; the minute hand WILL obscure your view.Overall this is a great, rugged watch for the price.

Good Functional Value...Nicely Styled
What's not to like about a seventy dollar waterproof, shockproof multi-function watch that also looks good. It's a seriously rugged-looking watch but very light weight. An inset digital screen is controlled by a mode button that advances through the date, digital time, alarm time, stopwatch, and second time zone functions. The screen can be backlit in a cool (really) blue light for night viewing. The rectangular screen is a bit small and not easily read with these baby boomer eyes in certain offlit situations. It is also difficult to read the screen when the analog minute hand sweeps across the screen through the 4 to 8 hour period. I'd pay another ten bucks to see this screen replicated on the top of the watch face (between 10 and 2 o'clock)to avoid this. No big deal. Hey, it's only seventy bucks!

Adjusting analog time -- not user friendly
Very nice watch in terms of appearance, accuracy, and reliability. The analog hands feature is great, in that it combines the accuracy of a digital movement with a display that can easily be read without glasses (great for us increasingly-senior citizens). BUT -- adjusting the time display (analog hands) is a major pain, at daylight savings time. The hands can ONLY be advanced in the forward direction. So plan on spending a good while slowly rotating the movement through a full 12 hours when you need to adjust the hands only ONE hour back. The upside is that the movement is accurate enough that you should not need to adjust the hands, other than at DST changeovers.

My Favorite
This is by far my favorite watch. Like all accessories the color combination of black and gold is flawless. The gold has so much shine it is great. For a person being on a budget it was a good buy for me. I didnt have to spend too much money on a nice watch that I wear to events that are casual to even formal. When you press the illumination button it does shine a green light. There are now G-shocks that shine a LED white/hint of blue color and I thought that this watch would have been even more flawless with that color of illumination.If you decide to buy this watch don't doubt your decision. Its a simple but nice watch to have. ENJOY!

Best Watch Out There!
This watch is fantastic. It looks great. It is very comfortable, and it is going to get you the attention that you wanted. It is strong and durable. It has an easy to read display. Best of all you get to say that you are wearing a G-SHOCK! What more could you want? This is a watch that you don't have to be worrying about. It protects itself. If you are a very active person, but you can't wear a watch because it will break, well then that changes when you buy this watch. I really enjoy this watch and I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

perfect for the active boy

Debating between a Gulfman or G7900 or looking for a red G-Shock? The G7900A-4 is awesome!
I have been eye-ing the Casio G-Shocking Rescue Red G7900 for some quite time. Casio has released several colors of this G-Shock, one being a limited edition negative display of the red version, but other colors such as white, olive green, black, and another black but with yellow display.But what caught my attention is the moon and tide graph. I have a Gulfman and G-Lide and the tide and moon display for the G7900 was one of the best I have seen out from Casio thus far. The display is nice and clear, not many obstructions as you get a circular moon tide graph on the upper left, tide graph on top and on the right, you get stop watch modes (for stopwatch 1 & 2). The larger display is the time and date.Of course, aside from the cool display and what really pulled me in was its red color. The red bezel and band really pops and love the black highlights throughout the watch. Unlike other G-Shock red watches that have orange, this one is red and black and...

G-Shock Rescue
Long week waiting on watch-amazon direct is faster. So far the watch lives up to the hype-does what it is suppose to do.Functions don't seem too complicated to set-instructions are easy to read and follow-but I must admit I have yet too set the tide function and the lunar-at age 49 I am in no hurry. The black g-shock rescue watch feedback on this site has a very good instruction guide for tide and lunar so that should be no problem. I like this watch...Will update on long term experience.

rugged, cool watch
When I saw the cool red color of this watch i had to buy it...everyone should have at least one watch that is unique and stands out from the dreary black/white world of normal everyday watches...these G-Shock Casios (I have a few) are so rugged, extremely well built and reliable they will probably outlive us all. The only reason this gets 4 stars from me instead of 5 is that the initial set up is somewhat complicated and time consuming...whatever you do, DO NOT LOSE THE OWNER'S MANUAL!...you will need it!

Just be aware
I bought one of these white Casio watches about 3 years ago. It's a great watch and love the atomic feature BUT I wish I had know the white color is just painted on. It rubs off and looks pretty bad when it does. If I had it to do over again I wouldn't have worn it as a everyday watch and maybe it would have stayed looking nice longer. I called Casio customer service to ask them if all of their colored or white watches were just painted on finishes and yep, they are. Maybe someday they will make the housing and bands with color all the way through, just not there yet.
