you can get Bessy clamps and pads for about the same price. I wish they came with pads. But they do work ok

Great Clamps for the Money...
I own several sizes of the Irwin 100 series steel bar clamps and use them for woodworking. I love the rubberized texture for the screw handles and the ease of adjusting the clamps. The plastic tips on the clamps do tend to fall off/slide off and end up in the sawdust pile that you throw out (whoops).These still do not rate high for "square-pressure" clamping like a traditional K-body cabinet-style clamp. These steel bar clamps are best for clamping items to a bench, clamping into a press or clamping uneven surfaces (like moulding). For face frames and panel doors I still prefer the K-body cabinet-style clamps which apply pressure more evenly than do the steel bar clamp styles.
