Nice Drill Bit
I received a strange request from my future daughter in law. For the wedding she wanted small pieces of wood, 2.5 inches to 4 inches in dia as centerpieces on the tables. In these she wanted to place a votive candle. That meant I needed to bore a two inch hole in each piece approximately 2.5 inches deep. I found some Maple limbs and cut them up in six inch sections. Trying to bore a hole in this hard rock maple was like drilling through a piece of stone. A regular forstner bit was not getting the job done. I searched the internet and found this bit. It still was a chore but this bit chewed through those pieces. The serrated edge and tri-blade interior was the best combination for boring through this hardwood. This bit also has a feature that I love and have not seen on any other bit of its type. The self feed bit center is removable. This was great because at first the bit was pulling into the wood and binding the bit into the wood. I was able to remove the the center self...

NOT 1/4" SHANK
Bit is FREAKING AWESOME, like all the Irwin Speedbor bits.But be aware that the shank is NOT 1/4" as Amazon advertises. It is actually 3/8" as per the Irwin website and my delivery.Love to use the 1/4" shank bits in my impact driver, but this bit needed a real drill, which nearly broke my wrist when it caught during drilling.Not a minus though, as it is a great bit!

Aggressive Cutting
I used this bit to bore deep holes into pressure treated timbers. It worked very well. The cutting action is aggressive but still left a relatively clean hole. I used both a power drill and a hand brace to bore the holes. When using a power drill I found that removing the centering drive screw from the bit reduced the aggressiveness a bit and made the cutting action finer/smoother. When using a hand brace, I found that putting the drive screw back into the bit improved the cutting action. Thus, having the option to have the centering drive screw either in place or removed was a beneficial feature.
