Very useful for gecko lovers everywhere (even Watford !)
As a self-taught gecko-keeper, over the past years I have a number of times wished I had had to hand a book such as this for all my different species of charges. While it is both interesting and informative on the background and origin of these creatures, more importantly it is remarkably focussed on the must-knows of keeping leopard geckos safely and healthily and deals with essentials from diet to breeding. The author should be commended for his close attention to detail. I truly believe that ownership of this book shall increase the chance of more of these beautiful creatures living to full term in captivity rather than dying suddenly and without explanation in the night.

The Leopard Gecko Manual is right on target!
This is a wonderful and informative book for both the Leopard Gecko beginner and expert breeder. It covers the basics of Leopard and Fat Tailed Gecko care, terrarium setup, health, feeding, and breeding. It has glorious pictures of Leopard and Fat Tailed Geckos, plus some other species as well. In addition this book has an expanded section on breeding, the effects of incubation temperature on the sex ratio of the hatchlings as well as the effects of incubation temperature on the coloration of your Geckos. If you're going to buy one book on the care of Leopard and Fat Tailed Geckos, this one is by far my favorite!

Best leopard gecko book yet
The top gecko people in the country collaborated to write this book, and the information is extensive, but simple to understand. It goes beyond the beginner's how to set up a tank and feeding, and gets into breeding for different colors and all the different 'morphs' that have been created so far, with many good pictures. It is the most up-to-date so far in terms of new morphs (colors). After reading it the first time, I like to keep looking through it just for the pictures and to re-read the information on genetics 101. Besides being great little pets who will sit on your shoulder, Leopard Geckos are a popular classroom tool for teaching genetics at high school and college level, and I recommend this book for teachers and students. Most other Gecko books you pick up at the Pet Shop are not worth keeping. BTW- Co-author and top breeder Ron Tremper is coming out with a more in-depth book soon (Summer 2005) for advanced breeding information and ideas. It will be the first of...

Highly Recommended for Gecko Owners
I have owned Geckos for the last seven years and I wish this book was available to me when I got my first one because it would have taken all of the guess work out of it. I had to learn the hard way with trial and error but at least I had an experienced friend to help me out. They are very interesting pets and fun to have but there is a big responsibility involved as well. This is a very helpful book even for an experienced Gecko owner like myself. It is full of great tips and tricks to make everything easier. It covers everything from feeding, lighting and cleaning, as well as handling your fragile pet. Its a very useful book to keep around for any Gecko owner and I highly recommend it.

Most indepth Gecko Book I've Read
I've read a few other books on leopard geckos but this one is so complete that if I would of read it first, there would of been no reason to read the others. This book not only has up to date information, but also has parts that the other books just don't have. From how to prepare your home and it's habitat to what warning signs to look for when your gecko needs medical attention; this books covers every aspect of caring for these little guys. I especially liked the sections on nutrition and which supplements you should give your gecko to maintain good health, very helpful! If you're considering a Leopard Gecko as a pet, then definitely read this book and if you already have one it's still well worth reading as the info in this book is for experienced owners as well.

Great Guide For Gecko Care
Myself and my daughter really enjoyed this book. My daughter got a leopard gecko for her birthday and we needed to find out how to take care of it as soon as possible. Answers all the questions you might have about these geckos and how to take good care of them. We both learned a lot and the book was easy to understand and use what the book teaches you. I liked all the secrets that you learn from other gecko owners, that was a huge time saver and really helped with the learning curve. My daughter feels like she is an expert on the subject now and it's so simple that a 10 year old girl was able to get it. She wants to breed them, so we'll think about that a little bit longer, but the book covers that too. I was really surprised at how much information was packed into this guide. It's a...

Your Favorite Pet
When picking them up, make sure they feel supported. The first few times they are picked up, they will be quick. If you hold them once a day though, they will calm down. All reptiles require a temperature gradient that will allow them to select the temperature that best suits their needs at that moment. Sometimes your leopard geckos will want to heat up, other times they will want to be cooler. The best way to heat your gecko enclosure is with an under-the-tank heater. Leopards are very easy to house. A pair (1 male and 1 female) can live comfortably in a 10 gallon glass aquarium but larger is always better. These tips are helpful but to receive complete and comprehensive information, ONLY this Ebook "Leopard Gecko Care " will give you the needed knowledge to help you with your favorite pets ---buy it 2 thumbs up!

Product Description

The leopard gecko (scientifically classified as Eublepharis macularius) has become popular in the United States and in many parts of the world because of the wide availability of colors and the ease at which even first-time owners can take care of these reptiles.

Leopard geckos are smaller than their other gecko relatives. Their size is one of their most endearing traits. One can easily hold an adult leopard gecko in one hand without running the risk of dropping and injuring the reptile. They also have great dispositions
and are well-suited to life in captivity.

However, there is one big difference when it comes to leopard geckos: they do not climb walls like other larger geckos. Despite their inability to climb vertical surfaces, you will be pleased to know that they can explore their immediate surroundings as thoroughly as a wild ferret. Rocks, small shrubs – all these are fair game for an inquisitive leopard gecko.

What makes a leopard gecko a worthy companion? Just look at its general lifespan. A leopard gecko can live up to twenty years in captivity! And that’s without extreme care since leopard geckos are naturally hardy and resilient little creatures.

All they need is a bit of heat and a clean tank – and that’s all they need to live for a very long time. So if you do decide to keep one and you exert consistent effort in feeding it the right diet and keeping its environment clean and disease-free, you can expect the little critter to hang around for a very long time. That’s the beauty of getting a leopard gecko.

In this book you will learn everything you ever wanted to know about caring for leapord gecko's. From optimal temperatures and what to feed them to how to breed them, you get the entire scoop on this fascinating pet. Top to learn more

Leopard Geckos

Crickets, a staple of captive bred geckos, are high in phosphorus but low in calcium, so feed your Leopard Gecko crickets that have been dusted in a calcium powder that is also rich in vitamin D3. If you do not, the gecko’s only recourse is to... Calcium sands were designed with leopard geckos in mind and are made of calcium carbonate and harmless food dyes for colour. Reptile owners are told to use paper towels, carpeting, ground walnut shells or bark chips as a substrate, but remember Leopard Geckos originally reside in the hot, rocky, desert areas of Pakistan, India and Afghanistan where sand is plentiful. It is the eating of too much sand that causes gastrointestinal impactions and the solution is to provide your Leopard Gecko with a balanced and nutrient rich diet. For a selection of Leopard Geckos and sand call Big Al’s Aquarium Supercentres and Pet City 905-560-1000 or visit their website at www.

The tail jumped or flipped when both sides were activated simultaneously, whereas – not surprisingly – it swung from side to side when first one side then the other was activated. Researchers Timothy Higham and Anthony Russell put these gecko tails to the test by charting the electircal activity some freshly shed specimens. Higham says the circuit controlling them may be linked to the tail's touch receptors, so the jumps and flips could be a response to external stimuli. Leopard geckos, however, are a major exception, as researchers at UC Riverside and the University of Calgary discovered. Higham says this suggests they are controlled by separate neural circuits, rather than a single circuit that can send out different signals.

Tailspin To find out how the tail keeps moving, Higham and Russell implanted four electrodes into the tails of four sedated leopard geckos. If the tail starts jumping when a predator tries to bite it, it may lure the hunter to chase after it. While this wild tail chase is going on, the gecko itself can make good its escape. The common leopard gecko does just that, shedding its tail when under attack. Not so the tails of leopard geckos: they can stay active for 30 minutes after their owners have abandoned them. Fortunately, the Black Knight's limbs were not up to leopard gecko standards, or King Arthur might never have made it to confront the fearsome Rabbit of Caerbannog. Timothy Higham of the University of California, Riverside, and Anthony Russell of the University of Calgary in Alberta, Canada, showed in 2009 that the geckos' detached tails can pull off two different manoeuvres. Then they woke the lizards up and pinched the bases of their tails, inducing the geckos to shed them. They rhythmically swing from side to side, and for the first few minutes after amputation they also flip and jump up to 3. it swung from side to side when first one side then the other was activated. Higham says the circuit controlling them may be linked to the tail's touch receptors, so the jumps and flips could be a response to external stimuli.
