Insuperable Multimeter quality at this price range...
Excellent multimeter, with nice accuracy for this price... Need more accuracy?? go for a fluke at several hundreds $$$ more... Autoranging it's a very nice option for fast readings between several ranges... It doesn't feel cheap at all, and i liked the green color... Large and clear readout, with a nice backlight option... In opposite with another reviewer, i got the "multi-function socket" for hFE measurement... Very happy with the device... Works with 3 AAA batteries (not supplied)...

Good Budget Meter
This is an acceptable multimeter and will service most peoples needs. Obviously you are not going to compare this to a Fluke multimeter, but for the price vs accuracy it is a decent multimeter. I have (2) of these and use them for general use where 100% accuracy is not critical. If you want better tolerances then you are going to have to spend a lot more than what the Mastech MS8268 is offering. With that said, the unit is somewhat large which may be better for some people. It has a nice large LCD display that is backlit if needed. The plastic casing itself is pretty rugged and the selector dial feels solid when you rotate the dial. Autoranging is nice and I really like the LED blinking terminal feature that displays which correct terminals to use depending on what function you have selected. As one of the previous reviewers stated this unit does not come with (3) AAA batteries. I like this MS8268 unit and believe most people that need a decent affordable multimeter can't...

Great under $20 meter for the hobbyist
I purchased this meter for hobby electronics use, and it has indeed served me well.Initially I purchased an EX 330 and found that I needed a second multimeter to performsimultaneous current and voltage measurements. I came across a lot of manual ranging meters in the $20range, but I decided to try this one (Extech MN35) Since the Extech 330 performed so well.Initially I was a bit worried that a manual ranging meter would be difficult, but it proved to be easy --and it resolves voltage and current measurements much faster than my auto range Extech 330.I have used this meter on several arduino projects and it performed well, and is rock solid.Pros:+ replaceable fuse, a must for newbies like myself.+ Rock solid form factor, you know you'll drop you meter at least once.+ Easy to read display.+ Measures current up to 200 Micro Amps, Sweet!+ Measures temperature to boot!Cons: (You know...

Quality feel, just one problem
The meter works well. Quality feel, seems accurate, the orange shock protector is a big plus. The only complaint I have is that it does not have auto-shutoff.

Great with this price
A good multimeter. It works perfectly fine as a multimeter itself. I bought it just for household usage, such as checking batteries, electric wires, outlets, and so forth, and it is fuctioning for that purpose. I don't expect more than that from this cheap one. If your expectation is about those ranges, get this one. I researched multimeters a little bit and it was the cheapest I found in July 2008, only when delivery is free.

It Works OK
This is not a Fluke nor is it even a Radio Shack, but the price is right and as an occasional household tool the DT830 works well enough. However If you are an electronic hobbyist this meter will probably not meet your needs. The Ohm-meter function works poorly in it's lower ranges and the diode check has no feedback tone. I could go on about its crude finish, but it's still a bargain if you need something cheap and expendable.

Good value for an interfaceable multimeter
Meter is nice and compact. Documentation is poor, but who needs to know how a multimeter works. Interface software seems to work on my Windows XP computer without a problem. Documentation on how to use the software is on the CD.Unless you really want to write a lot of weird software yourself, you are forced to use the included computer interface software! That is because the meter actually does NOT send the value of the reading.Instead it sends the current state of the segments on the LCD in the lower 4 bits of 14 bytes of data. One means black for example. It sends this continuously out of the RS-232 port. The upper 4 bits just have a value from 0 to 13 to tell you which byte it is. That means you need to decode the 4 digit 7 segment display into a number and decode other things like polarity, decimal point, and function to create the actual value. Sounds like a good programming homework problem.

OK for the price
My First impressions:Positive things:Meter uses two "AA" size batteries (I don't like 9V batteries!)Meter is an auto ranging meter (not manual ranging like cheaper meters). Input impedance is 10 MOhm and has a 3-3/4 digit display.RS232 connectivity sounds like an interesting feature, although I have not tested it yetMeter comes with rubber slip-on protector (Like another reviewer pointed out it's red instead of yellow). The slip-on has holders on the back for the probes to clip onto for storage (although the leads would still dangle around)Meter also comes with probes, thermocouple for temp measurements, RS232 cable, software CD and "generic" batteries (although the first thing I would do is replace the included batteries with alkaline AAs)Meter can measure:AC/DC voltage, AC/DC current up to 10 amps, Resistance up to 40 MOhms, Diode test, Continuity, TemperatureCapacitance up to 100uF. Note that the manual warns it may take...

Nice Multimeter
I got this to use with the Make: Electronics book by Charles Platt. I had one of the Electrical Engineers I work with help me pick it out of the listing on Amazon. It's good meter, with all the functions that I want and need. Including an Auto-off Feature after 30 minutes of not being used. I'll definitely recommend this one other people. The reason I give it only 4 (can't seem to give it 3.5 stars) stars are the following:1) The "User Manual" is a folded sheet of paper about 8.5 x 14 with very small print.2) The temperature probe, in the manual says is color coded, but is one solid yellow peice. You have to look really hard to see the + and - symbol so you can get the probe plugged in right.3) The Only option for doing temperature tests is Celsius. I live in one of the few countries that still does everything in Fahrenheit, and there does not seem to be an option to change between the two scales. The last two things...

Good Meter
This is a good little meter.Thumb uppers: Small overall size, large LCD display, auto-ranging, uses 2 AA batteries, uses standard sized banana plugs so is compatible with several 3rd party or customized probes/connectors.Thumb downers: probe clips are such weak, soft rubber that they don't grip the probes securely. And it would be nice for a little more $$ to include a case. So instead buy a $3 camera case to solve both deficiencies. Too bad the over-sized instruction booklet isn't the same size as the meter so it can be stored in the same case.

Good meter but...
This is a meter of above average quality for the price. A great meter to have for the do it your-selfer for around the house, car or boat. However, one function that is lacking is high range AC current (amps) the description says it measures AC current but doesn't say that the max AC amps it can test is 200mA or .2 amps, not really practical for ANY AC current measurments. You can measure the current of say a 20 watt AC light bulb with this meter. The PC you are using to read this draws about 3.5-4 AMPS or about 3500-4000 milli amps, this meter maxes out at 200 ma.I bought it for AC amps but can't use it for that. I'll keep it as a back up meter but I have to buy a better meter for AC amps. I guess that's what I get for being a cheap skate... time to buy a Fluke!

Excellent multimeter for a reasonable price.
I am going to be very blunt here from the get go, if your looking for a great Multimeter, this is the one to buy. However, if your looking for a Multimeter for use in a industrial purpose (I.E used by a electrician, HVAC Tech, etc) I am not sure I'd recommend this product for that use. But not because it's low quality (it's actually surprisingly well made despite not being made in USA), its because it can't measure past 600 volts and because of that fact, the Meter itself doesn't have CAT IV protection. However, if you aren't using this multimeter in a industrial situation, this Meter is great. Not only are the banana jack's shrouded (VERY important, not only for safety reasons, but also for the lead itself, but the LCD count is 4000. I'll admit, any company can make shrouded banana jacks (whether or not they have CAT protection is a whole another story) but the high LCD count is something not seen in most $50 dollar Multimeters and sometimes even $100 plus Mulitmeters...

Excellent DMM at a great price!
I had to replace my old Radio Shack DMM, which became intermittent. I decided I couldn't afford the Fluke models, so I found this Klein Tools MM200. For the most part, I love it. It's small size fits easily in any hand, fast (not like the Radio Shack that seemed to take forever to take a reading), and I have always trusted the Klein brand. The meter also comes with a thermocouple for reading temperatures. I don't have all that much use for the temperature probe, but I will use it when I need to verify that my oven is working properly. The only thing I don't like about the MM200 is that the probes do not have clip attachments. I would have liked to be able to clip one lead onto a ground or neutral bus while making line voltage measurements. I do not like the idea of using both hands on live equipment. This is a minor inconvenience though, since you can exchange the probes with any you choose (they are a standard plug/jack), or just use a short jumper with clips at...

Touch one lead to the common and one lead to the zone 1 wire/screw. Place one lead on the common terminal and one lead on the zone wire/screw. On the other hand, any reading above 60 means you have a wiring problem, either stripped insulation, nicked wire or bad connection. Wire problems can be involved so, before we get the shovel out, let’s go test the solenoid and other wire end. Touch one lead to one wire from the solenoid, the other lead to the other. If all that passes we are left with two things: either the twist connection for the controller wire to valve was bad or the solenoid is bad. We tested the controller for output, the wire for continuity, the connections for, well, connection and the solenoid for resistance. There are really three electrical reasons it might not: bad controller, bad wires, bad solenoid. When testing to see whether our problem is with the controller the question we are really asking is “does the controller put power out to the valve. There are few things as interesting as trying to test a 110AC wall outlet when your meter is set for low voltage DC. You’ll know you messed up. Your problem: your valve won’t come on. And we don’t know why. At the valve disconnect the wires from the valve. Check another zone even though the other zones are working properly. Touch one lead to the common and one to the power. So open your controller so that you can see where the valve wires connect. Turn your Multimeter to the proper VAC setting. If you have not found the problem at this time there may be a mechanical problem in the valve. Turn the problem zone on with the manual start on the controller.
