This is a small toy, not a giant one. It is a model of a giant octopus. Negative reviews based on size are the result of the buyer's confusion, not a reflection of the toy. Do you expect a toy killer whale to actually kill, too?

So realistic and unusual -- and well made!
I bought this octopus for my 4-year old nephew (along with an articulating shark) and he loved it. I did too! How many times do you see a realistic play octopus? It's well made -- the rubber/plastic is sturdy in the center and malleable at the tentacles, though not so much that there is a chance of them being torn off. Perfect bath time or pool time toy.

Heck of an octopus
Great toy! 'Giant' is referring to the particular species and not the item size - once one understands that all is well. As far as plastic octopi go, this is top quality. Duo tone paintjob and well formed suckers on the tentacle undersides. Quite nice looking. I'm using the little devil for part of a costume and the quality is excellent, didn't even need it to be this nice. Please note, unless your kid is obsessed with sea life this may not be a 'fun toy' per se but would probably be cool in the tub. The detailing is realistic and accurate so yes, I'd say educational. :) Durable? Oh yes. Mine;s been painted, glittered, glued and sewn to a hat and is holding up quite well. If there's room in your life for a plastic octopus, this is the one you should get.

So unique!
I love this necklace. The octopus is so unique and one of a kind--I've never seen another like it anywhere! I appreciate the fact that it has six legs instead of eight... gives it that little something different, don't you think? The burnished silver gives it an almost "steampunk" feel. This guy is awesome!
My daughter received this toy for Christmas. It quickly became a favorite of hers and therefore my husband's and mine as well. Baby girl is 9 months old now, and this guy keeps her entertained during diaper changes, toweling off after a bath, or anytime we need to put her down for a second to grab a diaper or a change of clothes. She has really put him through his paces and he holds up well. He's been spit up on, chewed remorselessly, even chucked into the diaper pail and he always comes out unscathed.

One of Baby's Favorite Toys
My daughter is 4 months old and we have to take this toy with us whenever we visit friends of family. It plays music fine for her and the colors work. The only problem we have is that she listens to the music so often that the tunes get stuck in your head.

Good infant toy. I may have some answers for problems listed in other reviews!
I'm not a huge fan of Baby Einstein stuff, but my son loved this octopus as an infant. We would play the songs for him again and again and he seemed to like it. One thing they don't show you is that the underbelly of the octopus is colorful and a baby likes to look up at the BOTTOM of the octopus, not just the face part. We hung this toy (has a velcro strap on top) over our son's bassinet when he was awake during the days. When we took it down to play with it with our son, we would sometimes spin it around while he looked at the bottom of it. It held his attention so he must have liked it. It is soft and (I thought) a decent size. It's true that it doesn't "sit up" well for long. It ends up getting kind of floppy-headed and its head will lean back on its legs when it's set down on the floor. This doesn't affect its use in any way, it's just an annoyance for those of us who keep trying to get its head to sit up nice. The songs are played by pressing on the...

Cute but hard to clean
This mug is adorable! It's a good size, doesn't feel at all delicate, and comfortable in the hand. The octopus is incredibly cute. However, from the product photo I thought it was completely sealed to the bottom of the cup - in fact, there's many, many small crevices and gaps. I have no idea whether there is a space under the octopus for liquid to be trapped, but there are definitely areas around the edges of the figure that are impossible to clean. If you have faith in your dishwasher, this is a very cute mug!
