Yummy dried persimmons
My brother always dries persimmons for me but couldn't this year.I bought these in hopes that they would be the same. They are great! Just like the ones I got from my brother!I especially appreciate that there are no chemicals in them,as I am allergic to the sulpur dioxide that is usually indried fruit products.Couldn't be happier!

who would have thunk it?
Don't look or taste much like the fresh persimmons (since those are mostly water, and these are dried...), but are very tasty in their own right. I thought it was a weird concept at first, but got religion after the first taste.

Chewy, a little sweet, and a lot addictive!
These are one of my family's favorite snacks. The littles like them just as much as the grown ups. I don't care for fresh persimmons (too watery, what's the point?), but these are great. At first taste I agree they seem a bit plasticy, but then as you start munching away you realize there's a huge depth of flavor and texture and you must.have.more. Love these things!

Both may be served by themselves, in salads, cooked, used in baked goods or frozen. With more than 85 recipes and procedures from transplanting to harvest and on to persimmon mousse, ice cream, Christmas pudding, preserves or dried persimmons, this book tells how! Pleased
Lots of good recipes in this book. I would have appreciated a few more photos. The book is very thin. Not sure it was worth the cost but it made a nice stocking stuffer.

Under the Persimmon Tree
Under the Persimmon Tree is a look at life in Afghanistan/Pakistan in the months immediately following September 11, 2001 through the eyes of two women. One is Najmah, a young Afghan girl left alone with her pregnant mother when her father and brother are conscripted by the Taliban. Her mother and the baby are killed during an air raid over their village a short time later. Now Najmah must travel to Peshwar to find her father and brother, and save their land. The other is Nusrat, an American teacher, convert of Islam, who came to Pakistan when her Afghan husband Faiz decided to return to his home to help those suffering because of the war. Their stories converge when Najmah is brought to Nusrat's home in Peshwar, where she teaches a school for refugee children. Together they seek answers about their families, and their future. This is a heartbreaking story, with a solid core of hope and strength. There is no happy ending, yet the future does not seem bleak...

A gem of a story placed in an unlooked for setting
This story unfolds through two perspectives: a young girl in Afghanistan and an American woman living in Pakistan, in the months immediately following 9/11. Their seemingly contradictory lifestyles share surprising similarities in their experiences, suffering and hopes, as the story draws these two together. The narrative weaves a delicate path, sensitive amidst the hardship and loss of the period, and provides a convincing and compelling explanation for each character's motives. The story climaxes with an ending that is poignantly true to its characters, despite the reader's wishes, yet is satisfying in its own brutal realism.Surely a Newbery contender!

An amazing testament to warfare and hardship
The year is 2001. Afghanistan is in the middle of a war between the Taliban and the US- backed Northern Alliance. The story follows two extraordinary people: Najmah and Nusrat. Najmah, whose name means "star," has lost almost all of her family to the fighting. Her only remaining relative is an uncle, whose sole aim is to steal the land that her father wanted her so much to protect. Najmah has no choice, but to accompany a family of travelers, as they are the only people, it seems, that care about her. The other main character is a woman by the name of Nusrat, an American living in Peshawar, Pakistan. Her school for refugee children under her Persimmon Tree keeps her mind away from her husband, who is working in northern Afghanistan as a doctor. Through a perilous journey, Najmah comes to live with Nusrat, and their lives entwine, as Najmah studies under the persimmon tree with other children who have seen more hardship in their young lives than Nusrat has seen in her entire...

Product Description

Intertwined portraits of courage and hope in Afghanistan and Pakistan

Najmah, a young Afghan girl whose name means “star,” suddenly finds herself alone when her father and older brother are conscripted by the Taliban and her mother and newborn brother are killed in an air raid. An American woman, Elaine, whose Islamic name is Nusrat, is also on her own. She waits out the war in Peshawar, Pakistan, teaching refugee children under the persimmon tree in her garden while her Afghan doctor husband runs a clinic in Mazar-i-Sharif, Afghanistan.

Najmah’s father had always assured her that the stars would take care of her, just as Nusrat’s husband had promised that they would tell Nusrat where he was and that he was safe. As the two look to the skies for answers, their fates entwine. Najmah, seeking refuge and hoping to find her father and brother, begins the perilous journey through the mountains to cross the border into Pakistan. And Nusrat’s persimmon-tree school awaits Najmah’s arrival. Together, they both seek their way home.

Known for her award-winning fiction set in South Asia, Suzanne Fisher Staples revisits that part of the world in this beautifully written, heartrending novel.

Under the Persimmon Tree is a 2006 Bank Street - Best Children's Book of the Year.

Persimmons

½ ripe avocado ½ cup 0% fat plain Greek yogurt ½ scoop (20g) vanilla flavoured whey protein powder ¼ cup unsweetened soy milk ½ tsp matcha green tea powder 15-20 pistachio, coarsely chopped 1 tsp unpasteurized honey 1 tbsp black chia seeds 1... Add another layer of matcha mixture (save a few tablespoons for top layer) followed by the rest of the persimmon, and finish with matcha. I feel a major matcha green tea kick coming… I’m sort of itching to create a Green Tea and Black Bean sponge cake now. Just giving you a heads up, you know, one more reason to want to get your hands on matcha green tea powder… but seriously, that parfait right here is reason enough. Garnish with a few slices of persimmon, unsweetened shredded coconut and chopped pistachios, if desired. Pour about half of the mixture into a serving glass and top with about half your chopped persimmon. Shortly after I created this guy , I started thinking that I needed to try avocado with persimmon . I thought that it would definitely be a winning combination. Plus, the fact that matcha and avocado go hand in hand.

This past weekend we revisited the same farm where we picked chestnuts last year . We drove two and a half hours from our home in Sydney's Northern beaches to the Blue Mountains area North-West of Sydney.

Fish chicken out from stock and shred finely with 2 forks, then combine with salad.     Combine persimmons, cucumber, cabbage, spring onions, mint, coriander, chilli (if using) and chicken in a medium to large bowl. Cool in stock while preparing persimmons and vegetables, then shred finely.

2 tbsp coconut flour 1 cup gluten free flour blend 2 1/2 tsp baking powder 2 tbsp flax meal 1/3 cup sugar (we used xylitol) 1/2 cup sweet potato puree 1/2 cup buttermilk (1 cup coconut milk with 2 tbsp apple cider vinegar, let sit 10 minutes) 3... 1/4 tsp nutmeg, or 1/8 tsp cayenne, or 3 tbsp nutritional yeast, and/or 1-2 tbsp chopped persimmons (for a more persimmon like flavor) directions:. 1 fuyu persimmon 1-2 tbsp tahini mix the frosting together in a small food processor till smooth. the donut pan we use is this 6 donut pan from amazon (no affiliate). pipe (click here for pictures on piping donut ) or scoop batter into donut pan that is lightly oiled. inspired from our pecan pumpkin donut and savory avocado donut.
