Perfect size for a baby room
I love this little can. It's sturdy, well-designed, and grips the floor nicely so it does not shift even with repeated use of the foot pedal. Other cans scoot around constantly and need to be adjusted to keep them from running into the wall. Not this little guy. Oh, and the lid closes ever so gently, like a leaf drifting down to the forest floor, rather than slamming shut like cheaper cans. It's attractive and fingerprint-proof (a real bonus with stainless steel since those grimy little smudges can be quite stubborn and require some heavy duty chemicals to wipe clean.) I find it to be the perfect little diaper pail alternative because it holds just enough to be convenient without stinking up the place too much. Also love the liners. To me a tidy fit is worth a few extra pennies, and their strength keeps wet messes in. Bottom line, Simplehuman is an excellent company with smart products, and I am more than happy with my purchase. exceeded expectations!
I was just looking for a simple silver covered mid-size trash can to stand next to the toilet. This Simple Human trash can is really nice! I didn't realize when I placed my order that it was designed to that the lid will close gently and silently every time. The shape allows it to stand sleek against the wall. It is really nice! I couldn't be happier with it.

Looks good in my bathroom
Had to research for trash bins for our bathroom after our electronic can failed and rusted after a few months. Went with simple human for their contemporary style. Was amazed at how it looked and its durability. Better to use simplehuman bags but re-using plastic grocery bags doesn't pose any problem. Will update review in the future for any issues..For the meantime, I like it :)

garbage can
The can is exactly as pictured. It's a perfect size for in the kitchen. The foot pedal works beautifully. The lid closes quietly. It's a ten gallon can and came with special bags, but 13 gallon bags fit very nicely. The stainless steel finish looks nice too.

This is better than the other trash cans we've owned. Here's why:The closing mechanism is VERY sturdy, especially compared to others which failed in less than one year.This one uses a folded-steel ridge or "column" that greatly increases rigidity. That supports the lifting mechanism and makes it work better. It's smooth and quiet!Another smart engineering decision was to make the top of lightweight plastic.Other cans had metal lids which were heavy and required more force to open. That put stress on the opening-mechanism. Naturally they failed too soon.This can requires very little force to lift the lid. So, in conjunction with the rigid reinforced column, the mechanism is far more robust. From what we've seen so far, I expect this can to last much longer than the previous two we had. Even a club footed 240 pound son hasn't broken it... yet.Other features:It has a handle at the back-top which makes it easy to move...

Clearly one of the best trash cans money can buy
You can't really go wrong and hate a trash can unless it either falls apart or has an automatic lid. Neither of these apply here, just good old finely crafted stainless steel, with plastic on top. It's practically ready to go out of the box and it includes free sample trash bags!As silly as this sounds, I have been watching these Simplehuman cans for a very long time. The price tag kept me away since it almost never drops low but if you can afford it, you will not be disappointed!Shipping was excellent since it had an initial ETA of 3-4 weeks, then a few days later, I got an email from Amazon that it would arrive in a week! Nearly Perfect
This trashcan is nearly perfect! It holds quite a bit. Great for a kitchen. We have had quite a few fingerprints show up around the lid. So, it's not entirely fingerprint-proof as they say, but fingerprints wipe off easily, much more easily than regular stainless steel. I use regular-size kitchen trash bags, and they still work great. There's a convenient knotch in the back of the inner liner where you can tuck any extra plastic in case the bag is too large. Even doing that, the bag will not show from beneath the lid when the trashcan is closed. I really like the semi-round shape because it doesn't stick out far from the wall. I'd like it better if it had a "silent-close" lid as I've seen on some other styles. Overall, I still like it, and I would most definitely purchase it again... In fact, I might just buy another one for our basement...

Such an OUTSTANDING trashcan!!!!
I purchased this trashcan from Lowe's (for the same price) one night after going over it in my mind for MONTHS why one would EVER spend so money on a trashcan. Well, let me tell you: It's worth every single penny. The size, quality, color, mechanics of it (the lid slowly closes once you take your foot off of the pedal) are great, and it's easy for me to clean. I'd buy this thing all over again- but much, much sooner than it took me this time. lol I highly recommend it!By the way, you don't have to buy the trashbags made by simplehuman for this size trashcan. You can just use tall kitchen trashbags.

easy solution to holding the inner bag
i used to have the same problem of holding the bag on the inner can: i couldn't find a rubber band big enough.then, i had a moment of trash-can inspiration: i just tied a string to each end of a sturdy rubber band and adjusted the length so i could stretch the string / rubber band loop around the top of the inner can. i tied another small piece of string from the loop to the edge of the inner can's handle so it'd stay nearby while emptying it.this works very well for me.

Pretty but it's got issues.
Overall, I'm happy with this. It's beautiful (which is something to say about a trash can) and it keeps the smells in and the ants out, but it has two problems. Although the inner can is removable so you can put the bag on the can and then in the casing, there is no band to keep the bag in place so when you put the can in the casing, the bag tends to get pushed off the can. I end up having to shove it back in around the can which is a pain. If I can find a rubber band big enough, I'll use that, but in the meantime, it's somewhat frustrating when changing the bag. The only other issue is the little piece which can be used to hold the top open is a tiny piece of metal which sits on the end of a rod - no screw or cap to hold it in place - which means it routinely falls off. For this much money, I would have liked a bit more functionality.

The perfect trash can
I have the 10.5 gallon version of this can which I purchased at a popular 'bed & bath' store. Like other Simplehuman products, it is very well designed and has a quality that provides me with a pride of ownership that is singularly strange considering it is a trash can... But what a can it is: the 'no touch' foot pedal works perfectly every time, the can seals tightly shut when closed keeping odors inside where they belong, the can has brilliant aesthetics and fits with my kitchen's stainless appliances seamlessly; the can is well designed all the way around. It's easy for me to recommend this trash can even at the relatively high price. In this case, you most definitely 'get what you pay for.'

Great product!
I'm the type of person who can't buy anything without researching everything from amazon reviews through consumer reports ratings, and admittedly, I didn't find much on this disposal unit. That said, I went to Bed, Bath, and Beyond one evening where you can find a multitude of simplehuman products and accessories. I looked at the large stainless steel cans and all of the other options available and concluded that this trash bin was the best option available. I like the fingerproof feature and the fact that it blends very nicely with all of the other stainless steel appliances in our kitchen. The slow closing lid is a feature that goes unnoticed but is very nice compared to the clanking sounds I noticed out of other stainless steel cans at some of the home improvement stores--there are options with plastic sound retardants that eliminate this problem (available in othe simplehuman models as well). The lid overlaps nicely and the pullout bin makes it easy to remove and replace...

Not against the wall
I just received this trash can, and it does seem to be as nice as they say, but it is not true that "the slim profile hinge allows it to fit close against the wall," as the product description states. The hinge projects about an inch from the back, but to keep the top from banging the wall, or to be able to use the locked-open position, the can has to be another 3/4 inch further away from the wall. PLUS, the back of the can is curved, so the back corners are about 3 inches away from the wall, making it appear (especially in my small kitchen) that the can is floating out into the room.I will have to go to the store to see if I can find any trash cans that fit better; if not I will need to put some kind of block between the can and the wall so it won't inch back into a range where the top will be banging.Update-- I got this one, which fits flush against the wall:simplehuman CW1950 10-Gallon Rectangular-Shaped Step Can, Stainless.

Sharp looking and keeps dog out of trash
So nice! Its very high quality and sharp looking with our other stainless appliances. Easy to change the bags, pull up the inner plastic can a couple inches and it sits elevated for you to pull out the full bag and replace it, then you easily set it back in the stainless body. You don't need to buy their special simplehuman bags at all! Any 13 gallon drawstring bag fits perfectly, no show, ect. I get my bags at Costco. Love the quiet self closing feature, also use the "stay open" feature when I am cooking dinner, just gently push the lid back open a bit further than normal and it stays up until you close it yourself. We mainly got this new trash can to prevent our great dane from eating a trash buffet at night and this did the trick!! No more dog digging in trash and no more ugly can in the kitchen. It's a win-win!

Elegant Design for a trash can
I actually have the 40L trash can and I love it. I used to have a white plastic step on trash can, so this is a step up for me. The Superhuman trash cans cost more than most other stainless steel ones, but you are buying an excellent quality product. The trash can is beautiful (if you can actually say that about a trash can), very durable, and easy to clean. I always liked having a step on trash can because when my hands are full of dirty trash, I want to open the trash can without using my hands. Very convenient.
